The U.S. Water subsidiary of Duluth-based ALLETE has acquired Tonka Water, a supplier of water treatment systems.

Founded in 1956, the Minnetonka firm has a national footprint and serves more than 4,800 industrial customers, including many Fortune 500 companies, ALLETE said in its announcement.

"This strategic acquisition, like the earlier additions of Water & Energy Systems Technologies and A and W Technologies, expands U.S. Water's geographic and customer markets, its equipment portfolio and its field service offerings," said ALLETE Chairman, President and CEO Alan R. Hodnik. "ALLETE continues to execute its strategy of supporting U.S. Water’s growth both organically and through tuck-in acquisitions as the company expands in the U.S.and Canada."
