"Giving is good business," read the slide behind George Goldfarb as he tried to impart that sentiment on hundreds of future business leaders at the University of Minnesota Duluth on Tuesday.

The CEO of maurices and Dressbarn talked about corporate charity and a range of other topics during the third annual student-run UMD Entrepreneurship Conference.

"It's critical that many of you as students hold this in high regard as you begin to enter the workforce," Goldfarb said.

For Duluth-based Maurices, giving back to the community includes millions in annual donations plus the "Best Day Ever" initiative that sees the headquarters close down and employees embed themselves in volunteer posts throughout the community.
