Matt Shermoen

Matt joined the APEX team in 2019 as Business Developer.  Matt is responsible for attracting, expanding and retaining key strategic employers within the region, and leverages his sales expertise to build relationships with management personnel, demonstrating how expanding in or relocating to the APEX region leads to achieving business growth goals and objectives. He leads and participates in meetings with strategic regional employers through the Minnesota Chamber's Grow Minnesota! Partnership and he also works directly with the Itasca Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) to strengthen business attraction, expansion and retention strategies specific to Itasca County.

Before joining APEX, Matt spent 20+ years in business development across multiple industries including economic development marketing & communications and several industries that are important to northern Minnesota’s economy, such as technology, industrial and retail sales and outdoor recreation. Matt is also co-owner of Border Country Outdoor Adventures, a fishing guide service provider on Rainy Lake.

Matt spends his free time enjoying many of the outdoor activities offered in northern Minnesota with family and friends. A few of Matt’s hobbies include competitive fishing, hunting & land management, traveling, and mastering his BBQ skills.
