Northland Foundation's Image

The Northland Foundation invests in people and communities to support a thriving northeastern Minnesota. Northland is a publicly supported foundation serving the counties of Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis and five Tribal Nations within the same geographic boundaries: Bois Forte, Fond du Lac, Grand Portage, Leech Lake, and Mille Lacs. Strategic focus areas include Children & Youth, Individual & Community Wellbeing, and Economy & Jobs. The Foundation addresses these priorities through:

  • Grantmaking to support the work of nonprofit and community organizations, Tribal Nation partners, and school districts and other public entities.
  • Business Loans to help small and medium-size businesses start and grow, to support a vibrant regional economy.
  • KIDS PLUS Program to improve the well-being of children and youth and connect the different generations through community-centered initiatives.
  • Convening, Training, and Special Initiatives to offer learning opportunities and special initiatives in our rural region.
