Maurices makes grand gesture

Thursday, September 24, 2015

Ann Marie Stojevich went to the old Lincoln Park school as a child growing up in Duluth. On Tuesday, she returned to the repurposed school on the 2400 block of West Fifth Street with a group from Maurices to help share in the clothing company's charitable-giving day known as the "Grand Give."

The company closed its headquarters for the day to blanket the community, reaching out to 31 organizations across Duluth. At the Damiano Center, Maurices staff cooked an Italian lunch for more than 400 people and volunteered as cheese-shredding wait staff.

In Lincoln Park, Stojevich and a dozen others arrived at Community Action Duluth armed with 90 gift baskets filled with soaps, candles, coffees, chocolates and more. The baskets, said Community Action Duluth director Angie Miller, will be given to Community Action Duluth recipients who reach important goals such as passing a GED, paying off a loan or finishing a resume.
