Maurices employees make their mark

The construction of the new Maurices headquarters is nearing a milestone with the placement next week of the final steel beam.

The beam is 30 feet long, weighs 1,700 pounds and, unlike all of the others, is painted white. After Monday, it also includes the signatures of Maurices' roughly 450 corporate employees.

"Should I sign my name backwards?" said Bonnie Carlson, an administrative assistant, to a coworker. "I started writing cursive backwards in grade school."
