DULUTH — Minnesota’s Power Great Northern Transmission Line project has cleared another important hurdle in the company’s bid to bring more renewable and carbon-free hydroelectricity from Manitoba, Canada, to northeastern Minnesota.
The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission approved MP’s request for a Certificate of Need for the 220-mile transmission line that was proposed three years ago.
MP officials have said the project will cost between $560 million and $710 million. MP is a utility division of ALLETE Inc.
