Northland foundation gives out money locally

The Northland Foundation awarded 66 grants to nonprofits serving northeastern Minnesota in the first quarter of 2015, including four in Lake County.

The Friends of the Finland Community received $10,000 to support youth activities. North Shore Horizons in Two Harbors was awarded $11,000 from Butler Family Foundation to expand their services to victims of domestic violence through expanded hours and outreach in Finland. North Shore Area Partners in Silver Bay was awarded $15,420 from the Rural Aging Initiative, and the Two Harbors robotics team was awarded $1,000 from the Youth in Philanthropy Fund.

In total, $884,226 was awarded by the foundation between Jan. 1 and March 1.
