Blasting to begin Monday for new Essentia Health parking ramp in Duluth

The next step in Essentia Health’s $20 million parking ramp project will be a blast, literally. Using old-fashioned dynamite sticks, crews will begin to blast down into in the solid bedrock to prepare a new foundation for the ramp.

Providing safe care is Essentia’s top priority, so a blasting schedule has been created so staff in the Duluth Clinic’s Third Street Building will know when to halt or discontinue delicate procedures.

Blasting will begin Monday, May 4, at 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. A minute before each blast, staff will hear three horn blasts, followed by the sound of an air horn to signify the actual blast.
