Dr. Person named Business Person of the Year

Dr. Peter Person, retiring Essentia Health chief executive, was named Business Person of the Year Wednesday by the UMD Labovitz School of Business and Economics (LSBE).

Person served for six years as CEO of St. Mary’s Duluth Clinic, for eight years on the SMDC board of directors and for two years as president of the Duluth Clinic. He became CEO of Essentia Health in 2004 – a position he held until retiring earlier this year.

"This year, out selection is someone who has shown strong change leadership and has been highly successful at merging multiple healthcare systems,” said LSBE Dean Amy Hietapelto, noting that Dr. Person directed a multi-state healthcare system having $1.8 billion in annual operating revenue.
