The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said Tuesday that two PolyMet applications for dam safety permits have been passed along to local governments and Indian bands for review.
The applications — for the mine's tailings basin and the hydrometallurgical residue facility — have already been reviewed by DNR dam and hydrology experts and a third-party private consulting company.
After comments by local governments and band natural resource agencies, the DNR is expected to issue a draft permit for operation of the dam. That draft permit would go out for public comment, likely later this year.
