APEX IN THE BUSINESS TO HELP REGION GROW

It’s an organization which has a partnership with the Itasca Economic Development Corporation to attract, support and grow business in the area.

Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce members heard a presentation from Brian Hanson, APEX president and Tamara Lowney, senior business developer with APEX, during a monthly luncheon meeting.

Hanson told the group that APEX is a member-driven organization with offices in Grand Rapids and Duluth. APEX serves 10 counties, seven in northern Minnesota and three in Wisconsin.

APEX has impacted more than 4,000 jobs in the area with an annual payroll of $170 million. APEX has served more than 250 businesses.

Hanson also explained that Northforce.org is a great tool for APEX in business recruiting. He gave an example of a California business which was looking to locate a small IT shop.

Through job seekers registered on the Northforce site, they were able to show that 147 computer programmers were seeking employment in this area, he said.

Lowney explained the business partnership with IEDC and Itasca County, which includes business attraction, marketing strategies and materials, special projects, business retention and expansion, as well as developing local relationships and partners.
